hi folks its been a while must admit at one stage i nearly threw the towel in..however..got my eye on a new pond trouble is its deep stinky silt and 4 foot deep so...whadya reckon ..whats the plan of attack? only logic i have rattling about my head is a chod on a light lead all in a bag?ps its full of swan mussells! :D
Choddy is a good option if you make it with loads of adjustment or just try a lighter lead, longer hookline and make sure you have a pva nugget attached. If there is no weed you could just ease the lead out of the silt. I have been doing this before the pva nugget melts on a local lake which sounds similar. If you do try it make sure your hooklink material is fairly stiff. I`ve had no problems and a few fish :fish:
My problem this season is i have taken on a large 100 acre gravel pit which has an average depth of 14-16 ft but has many areas to nearly 25/30ft. Add to this the minimal stocking levels per acre. I reckon i`ve taken on a headbanger LOL
P.S. good to see you back on mate i think everyones been busy busy busy
hi john hope your well..if its any help you could try a zig rig, however ive never tried one and wouldnt know where to start? keep in touch!
Loads of silt is usually the result of treelined banks, so try leading about further out from the furthest extent of the tree branches and you may find less soft silt and debris and a slightly firmer bottom.
Marker float this area, then fill it in with boiled Wheat, Oat groats or dead maggots and watch for the bottom being stirred up by feeding fish.
You can then float fish (yes you read that correctly) on the top of the silt or go back to lighter tackle, ie MUCH lighter bombs than is the current fashion, 1.5oz to 2oz is fine, and see what happens.
Good luck.
