Windermere is a big deep lake and will take time to crack. I've had four trips over the years and blanked. No shame really, I know people that have spent far more time than me on there and still not caught. There's a website http://www.lakedistrictfishing.net - thats worth a look, but if you really want to start catching pike and more important learning a bit about locating Windy pike then you really need a guide. It may not be what you're looking for, but a decent guide will teach you more in a day about the place than you could discover for yourself in a year. Think of all of the time and petrol you'll save. I know Matt Hayes guides on Windermere although after expenses, you'll have little change out of £500 for the boat.

Tony Cookney by reputation is a far better bet and a whole lot cheaper, probably £100ish per day. He's probably the best of the windy guides and has a small B&B too. You'll find him at

There is a member called Noodle on another site i belong to who fishes the lake District a lot. Also Andy Macfarlane, who is knowledgeable & belongs to ALL the Piking forums, he's Scottish & has fished Lomond & all the big Lochs.

They..will know how to tackle such a big water ;)

Surely they will be in the shallows at this time of year, they spawn around Feb-March. I would fish the bays for sure, are there any bays with inlets? Can't imagine you need to go deep for them now.

I think it might be another water thrashing party with a selection of plug's..Might have 2 days splashing if no joy try a deadbait.. The fish like you say martyn should be getting down with some breeding...in the bay's :big: And the last time i had a fish on at windermere it was next to an inlet....sounds like a good starting place. :salmon:

Went to windermere over the weekend of march 6th 7th 8th and 9th.Started well only used two tie rapp's on the way up to windos one on the mud guard and one on the trailer brake wire.First day we went up north on windermere to the river mouth and elk(ship's cabin boy) had a strange looking pike fat body and a little head 6lb ish on a spinner. We thought we was in......THAT WAS IT FOR PIKE no more to be seen for the rest of the trip we splashed and splashed ..Thanks for making me first mate captain stacey.I'm looking forward for the next trip... :D
