Just out of interest bowser where is this lake in balderton? is it day ticket? and is it the one that nearly reaches the A1 at the end of main street. I used to live in balderton so just curious mate :ph43r:

I normally shy away from "Whats your PB?" threads because of coming into contact with er.lets call them "new age" carpers on day ticket venues. Quite often the question pops up before they even know your name and their attitude depends on how big your PB carp is as if its a marker to your angling ability
Anyhow,..my biggest pike to date is 19lb on the button..I'll have to put some more time in for that magical 20. Biggest barbel from my match style baggin days was 6 1/2lb from the Severn but I popped onto the Trent a couple of times in more recent years and had the same fish twice (a few months between captures) at 9lb and 9lb 1oz. Been fortunate to have 3 roach over the 2lb barrier topping out at 2lb 5oz from the Louth Navigation Canal.
I still intend to find the time for a 4lb+ Perch and a 6lb+ Chub :big:
I'll put up a photo of my "pb" carp as a memory of the fish which sadly passed away last year due to old age..RIP Old Fella

Nice looking fish mate.
I see you intend to find some big perch, just out of interest do you know what is used as a rattle in the rattling rig? Can remember reading about it years ago but i can`t for the life of me think what it was.

4lb perch, think you need the upper Ouse for that, although some biggies in the Witham now.
Nice Carp by the way.

Just realised I forgot about half of the original question :o
After a couple of 24 hour sessions on the lake I noticed no one was using any amount of bait and most were concentrating on the margins (which do produce a lot of fish) so 3rd session I spodded 3-4kg of particle mix and a couple of kg of boilies onto a gravel bar about 30 yards out. A couple of baits were fished over this, one a bottom bait and one an obvious pop up (white :D ) and the 3rd rod was fished in the margin to my left. Midnight the pop up rod was away and the fish put up an excellent scrap before succumbing to my excellent playing skills  and rolling over the drawcord. One of Duncan Kay's originals.
Rattling rig John?
Not heard of that to tell the truth. The only time a rattle of any sort has been involved in my angling was in the form of a ball bearing inside lures I've used for piking. I caught on them but I'm really not sure if it was the "rattle" that brought about success or the size and colour of the lure. It certainly didn't put them off.
The upper Ouse is not that far away Martyn but my first line of attack may be a little closer to home on the Nene or the Welland. It depends if I decide to have the odd day out for them or devote a month or so of the year to Perch fishing.
Theres a thing, the only time I delibrately targeted Perch before was in September and October. I don't know why but I somehow considered that the right time of the year. Is that about right or am I miles away?

here is a pic of my pb from a1 pits (6) fishing from the point at range. may 2007 24lb 4oz well chuffed :D

Saw the rattling rig in angling times absolutely years ago. The rattle was incorporated into the rig to attract the better sized perch especially in coloured water thats all i know :snork:

Dont know about right time of the year Chris, would have to dig out my Speci-books; Gibbinson, Miles, Plummer etc. Sure there will be a Perch fishers forum somewhere.
