Title: Forum fish-in
Description: Anybody fancy a session at Dunham
JOHN - September 3, 2008 10:40 AM (GMT)
Hi folks Dudster has suggested a fish-in at Dunham on the Trent. There are some nice Barbel frequently being caught at the moment into double figures :big: and so thought it would be nice if we could get together and perhaps do a day/night. Entirely up to the individual how long you stay for.
If anyone is interested please suggest the dates that would be best for yourselves and everyone can come to a mutual agreement hopefully. Lets say between now and Oct 31st.
Bring a friend if you want its on day ticket anyway. More the merrier just to see what we can get out :salmon:

Hi chaps.
Nice to see we have got a bit of interest. Whilst sitting at work this evening i got a picture message from my mate Jamie (who i have mentioned and pictured in a thread previously). Well he`s just done his personal best Barbel from said stretch and i reckon his grin says it all!!!!
Well in mate and a cracking 14Lb 8Oz :big:

Its certainly wet my appetite for some fish action :fish:

dudster - September 5, 2008 08:59 AM (GMT)
Im up for it any weekend.I think we should fish round the corner near the ponds ..or i'll be happy to fish under the bridge no walking needed. And The monster jamie had well i want one. :big:
bowserbradleys - September 5, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
:D great looks like its happening :D just to be sure tho, its as you get to dunham bridge you go to the right??
bowserbradleys - September 5, 2008 04:08 PM (GMT)
so to double check it is a day ticket job not a syndicate or part of notts aa or something?
bof - September 5, 2008 06:01 PM (GMT)
I think its the left hand bank (facing downstream) thats being used, and I understand this is DT water.
It is tidal though, so some big leads may be needed, c 4 to 6oz, maybe more, depending on the state of the river.
BOF ;)
VISIT THE TRENT.... before the Trent visits you! :D
dudster - September 6, 2008 12:13 PM (GMT)
Its 100% day ticket but i'v never seen the guy and i'v been fishing it for ages he carnt be bothered to walk down to the ponds and if comes its £3.50 for the day or £17.50 for the year :ph43r: we wont see him. :ph43r:

bowserbradleys - September 8, 2008 08:36 PM (GMT)
great looks like a cracker...trents up big time at the moment but we'll be ok by then!whats the preffered bait then??? :)
JOHN - September 8, 2008 08:39 PM (GMT)
It seems 27/28th sept is best for most and some are free at weekends so we will call this the date of the fish-in. At the minute the Trent is in flood but providing the rain steadys it should be good and at a nice level in a few weeks time. I see the mention of lead size has been mentioned and i will agree with bof on the sizes he has stated. Depending on line diameter and type of rods to be used will greatly influence the size of leads to be used. I am currently using 12lb sensor with a set of original build xflites in 3lb test which are quite forgiving and find 6-8 oz to be adequate even when its gunning through. If i was using lighter tackle such as a heavy feeder rod and 6-8lb test you will hold with 3-5oz. All the leads i use are grippa leads. Its quite important that you manage to hold the bottom on this stretch because it has some good sized snags and rocks in places and your lead rolling round one of these will almost guarantee a loss of tackle. So come equipped!! I will keep everyone posted as to the state of the river and should know a couple or three days before as to whether its comfortably fishable.
JOHN - September 8, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
Ok bowser bait wise i must admit there a couple of boilie that the Barbel have taken a liking to. Dynamite meaty marines and Tiger nut boilies have both caught plenty of doubles. Most fish have come on 2 20mm baits which may seem quite a large bait but smaller baits believe it or not have come nowhere near. I`m sure hallibut pellets will also get you a few fish. It is worth bringing a bit of groundbait for the feeder if you fancy it as this has out scored just the single baits but not on all occasions so its not a definite fish attractor unless you fancy a few Bream. Plenty of skimmers if you want to fish lighter with maggot. The choice is yours.
dudster - September 8, 2008 09:49 PM (GMT)
i'll be meaty boilies fishing and i'll be happy the share them out when i bag a beasty barbileus :big: .Well got to hope.
Hope you liked the map 5 mins on paint shop
i'm thinking fish near the bridge then we can park at back of the swim
bof - September 9, 2008 09:01 AM (GMT)
Those rocks near the bridge always were a bit of a tackle trap, so I can understand the emphasis on bringing plenty of leads. But since I have never fished up by the lakes (too idle to shift all the gear up to those pegs when I could carry it all, now I can't carry it, I want to fish them, is that perverse or what?), so if I can make it I will be trying to dig out my barrow for the trip up there.
BOF ;)
bowserbradleys - September 9, 2008 02:28 PM (GMT)
great stuff i'll pencil in 27th/28th and get some 20mm meaty marine and a few lobbys(well it is the trent!!..would be wrong not to!)
bowserbradleys - September 9, 2008 02:30 PM (GMT)
anyone tried swan mussel there's a massive bed of them in a lake near us?
bof - September 10, 2008 10:46 AM (GMT)
Yes, I have used them, but it was many years ago, on one of the Hull waters. It caught what was my personal best Mirror for quite a few years.
Just be careful, as certain freshwater mussels are protected species, nowadays.
BOF ;)
bowserbradleys - September 11, 2008 07:45 PM (GMT)
;) evenin all..been and invested in a few 6ozs leads, bait etc (didnt want any money anyway) hows the trent looking? :D
bof - September 11, 2008 09:24 PM (GMT)
I was also feeling the weight of surplus cash in the wallet, and in an effort to relieve the discomfort,( ), invested in a new Barrow and unhooking mat this afternoon.
So thats me stuffed then, no fish, and I'll be allocated the car park swims for the forseable future. :D
BOF ;)
bowserbradleys - September 12, 2008 08:44 PM (GMT)
barrow....barroww..luxury i rember when i usd to carry all me tackle on a old shopping trolley from "fine fare" 200 miles to the trent..carp matt i remember when we used to truss em up on me blanket ..WHICH WAS ME BIVVY   KIDS TODAY..WONT BELIEVE YOU  ETC ETC ETC
bof - September 13, 2008 01:14 PM (GMT)
You soft so and so! We used to have to hijack the coal mans horse and cart and head off the 300 miles to the river, throwing lumps of coal at anyone sent after us.
Rods were broken billiard cues, with wire rings whipped on to them at home, and bait was stolen worms from the local park, (you had to steal them or they wouldnt catch).
Kids these days etc etc etc.
BOF ;)
bowserbradleys - September 13, 2008 05:37 PM (GMT)
weeeee had to get up an hour before we went to bed,dig a trench ,fill it wi water, call it the trent, use branches of trees we'd just grown, use our own hair for line ,fish for 25 hrs a day THEN..drink it dry fill it in,walk home and do a shift at mill
bof - September 13, 2008 09:20 PM (GMT)

JOHN - September 25, 2008 03:45 PM (GMT)
Hi chaps.
I have the tide times for this weekend. These are high tide times.
Sat:
0907hrs 3.9mtrs
2150hrs 3.9mtrs
Sun:
0946hrs 4.2mtrs
Myself and Dudster are looking to arrive at about 11.30 and will be in the notts side car park. I will pm you all my telephone number just in case you are late etc so we all know what we are doing.
Ideally fishing near the bridge would be nice with regards to not humping tackle miles but in the event of these swims being full Dudster has suggested leaving the cars in Dubham village itself for security and him taking your tackle as far as possible (to the gate) in the back of his pick up.
The tides are quite high which Barbel favour so there could be some fish on the cards ;)

As you can see from this chart taken fron the Barbel Society website the most productive times are outlined as is the time it takes to back up. We will get to fish the last few hours of the morning tide and whilst its backing up it will give us time to get set up for night fall and have something to eat. The night tide looks good also as most fish i have seen come from this stretch seem to rear there heads at night.
