Ayup Elk mate, I've not been able to find that much about the history of the lake or what's been stocked in there so far but I'm guessing/estimating it's roughly 250 years old so it might have a few monsters lurking in there. I've edited a lot of this text into my own words but I've left a little bit of background in there just to put the park into context.
Basic information is:
A superb 83 acre serpentine lake. Coarse fishing on one side of the lake: 16 June to 14 March, 7 to dusk. The centre of Clumber Park is its serpentine lake which refers to its shape. The lake is in keeping with the park, no doubt one of the biggest in Britain with its 3,800 acres. Lots of birds live on it and around it: swans, moor hens, barnacle geese, ducks. There are some bits where the lake is so narrow it looks more like a stream, and there are little falls as well.
‘Serpentine’ is the key word here, it can take almost 3 hours (and 2 bridges) to walk around its entire length. The narrow end of the lake has an arched stone bridge with parking near by, this is generally quieter that the main car park and cafe area. On the side of the road just after the bridge is a bird feeding area.
Handed over from Queen Anne to the 3rd Duke of Newcastle John Hollis in 1707, 3,000 acres of Sherwood Forest's land came to form Clumber Park which was home to deer, snipe, rabbits and partridge — perfect for the Duke's recreational sporting interests. The park went on to be gradually developed by a series of dukes and features like the park's superb lake, chapel, classical bridge and Lincoln stables were created.
Clumber Park is a country park, in part designed by Capability Brown, in the Dukeries near Worksop in Nottinghamshire, England. It was formerly the park of a country house called "Clumber House", which was the principal seat of the Pelham-Clinton Dukes of Newcastle from the early 18th century onwards. It is owned by the National Trust and open to the public.
Clumber Park is over 3,800 acres (15 km²) in extent, including woods, open heath and rolling farmland. It contains a superb, 87 acre (352,000 m²), serpentine lake, and the longest double avenue of lime trees in Europe. The avenue extends over three miles (5 km), and was created by the 5th Duke of Newcastle in the 19th Century.
The Park was originally left to the people of Worksop by the late Duke of Newcastle but the National Trust bought it in 1946. Much of the park has now been closed to the public, and those that remain open are only really accessible by car, at a charge of £4.50 (free for members of National Trust).
A few random photos:

Just to give everybody an idea of the size of the lake:

For what it's worth, I'm a National Trust member (and history geek) so I get free parking at all NT properties ;)

On Clumber there are certainly some secret squirrel carpers on there, no idea what carp are in there.
Dave Plummer's book (you might be able to find it on the library list) details his bream and roach catches there, but that was a long time ago, so don't know if the lovely cormorants have scoffed the roach and bream.
I think your best bet is deadbaits but where to start? you need to try look for signs of prey fish, or next to snags, even near the bridge. Must be some whacking pike in there with all them ducks to eat. Think lures work better in warmer times. If you find pike this time of year you could be in for a field day cause they arre ready for spawning and shoaled up in Feb.
Good luck fellas

It was around that area that I saw two carpers opposite the steps tucked away Hearn style, I was cycling, knees aren't upto running, (mind you they were well upto running when I stumbled into a wasps nest on the river bank....) could get zero info off them when I asked; fishing for bream my arse. I'm sure you can't night fish, that would put me off.
roy - February 3, 2008 12:10 AM (GMT)

You can`t night fish but i have seen a couple of lads with all their night gear loaded on their barrows. Looked like they were waiting for everyone to bugger off home cos they were just sat there talking and watching the lake in no rush to get set up. It must have been 3pm so not exactly planning on a day were they :big:

Had four days on windermere pike fishing on stacey's boat(montana) started friday the 7th march.Me stacey elk and licker all specimen fish forum members plugs in hand got to windermere at about 8;30am.Boat could be put into the water after 9am all went well.We was giddy we splashed the water to death all day on the north end of the lake trying all the plugs in all the north west bays. A full day passed no fish.Sat 8th we all tryed plugs/lures near to all the islands and went to the north end of the lake and started down the east side bay's still no fish.sun 9th we went round bell island with some dead bait's out no luck. Then went back to the north east bays plugs ready and stacey got into a little jack we was all well happy.(Got the plugs splashing a bit more i tell ya)Then stacey got into another little jack lucky git.Mon 10th last day went straight back to the jack pike spot and stacey got into another jack. Then stacey tryed casting with his rod under part of the boat snap went his new rod into three nice sized bit's.Me and lickster looked round and stacey had a firm hold onto a snapped rod with a lost look on his face(o dear). And it was the only day we didnt take loads of rods on the boat we went back fetched stacey's other rod and we fished on.No more fish the end to four days on windermere
3-0 to stacey
thanks captain stacey

i had a 24hr session on local pond to no joy. :o
Very nice fish action on top but thay wasent having my bait... hot and sunny but no fish...for me
bof - May 10, 2008 05:44 PM (GMT)
Didnt even have them going on top yesterday, not a flicker, not even from the Bream.
Almost the whole place to myself, the best swims, wonderful weather, and still Nadda.
Sometimes I think that one of the ingredients I keep adding to my baits is fish repellant. Don't know which item it is, but if only I could leave it out I'm sure I'd be a lot happier.
BOF ;)
JOHN - May 10, 2008 06:48 PM (GMT)
Don`t lose faith in your bait bof they will come and be :big:

Took kids to a pond recommended by Specimenfishforum's John on Saturday, from teatime onwards. The favoured area was stitched up by some carpers, I saw a 9.08 being landed and several fish lost by the use of inadequete line in the dense lilies.
We used floatfished corn and baited with pellets and corn, lots of bites were had but lots were missed, I suspect roach and rudd were the culprits and our hooks were a touch big. In hindsight I would have set the kids up with 2.08 hooklengths, 16 hooks and maggots and suspect this would mean a fish a chuck.
We caught bream upto 12oz and a solitary roach, the kids were thrilled to find tadpoles in the margins and spent time catching some while I attempted to catch one off the top, there were odd carp into doubles cruising around. Failed.
Kids had had enough by 8pm just as the lake was looking good for a carp, indeed I found a good double by the car park taking discarded mixers and looking catchable, too late, the kids were on a mission to get some chips for supper.
Spoke to a carper who came down as I was loading to go and he confirmed I was missing the best time, and his best from the lake was 27
All in all I should have taken various baits; one lad was doing well on prawn, and maybe not taken the kids ! Only joking of course.
